To A Certain Person

In the course of human events sometimes what may occur as small to all but one can be huge to that one, and this has just occurred. Of course this blog is not written for an audience of one. I'd just send an email. However, among the complex set of motivations behind it has been the desire to deliver a certain message, a message not captured in a paragraph or even a lengthy post, to a certain person.

The message is the intangible essence of the aggregate of both Something Else and the material at the blog, including (if not especially) the comments on the various posts.

I don't have any spooky software or analytics that peer into a visitor's web cam or let me see data on their computer, but I do get very basic information on the number of visits, the city or town of the visitor, and the Internet Service Provider (ISP) used to access the site.

A few days ago, mostly on Friday and Saturday (16th/17th), a certain person read my material, and I'm not talking about a casual glance. This person really read it, drinking deep with the brain engaged. Why this means so much is difficult to explain, but it means a lot. I don't expect this person to do or say anything, but I want to acknowledge and thank the individual for reading what I had to say.

From the content visited, the comments explored, and the nature of the reading, this person gets it.

I get that you get it, and it means more to me than you will ever know. Thank you so much.

x4mr sounds pretty moved. Obviously someone important to him has read a lot of his stuff, and it can't be a regular reader.

Interesting. I hope we get to learn more about who "certain person" is and why he or she chose to read a good dose of x4mr last weekend.

That's really strong language, and x4mr sounds deeply moved. Someone (who?!) must have read a LOT. I imagine it is fairly common for someone to find x4mr's blog, see that it's good, and read a lot of it.

Clearly this is something very different, and it's great, just like his dinner with Sirocco in Seattle.

I wonder if the two are related.

Any ideas, Sirocco?

I think it might be a new woman in X4mr's life. Or it could even be Ms. Giffords.

Whoever "certain person" is, there is no way x4mr would write what he wrote over someone reading a few blog posts. Nav is right. The person read a LOT. It sounds like communicating to this specific individual has been part of x4mr's motivation for the WHOLE THING, including "Something Else." If that's the case, this is a big deal.

Liza, I'm pretty sure Giffords already reads this blog (along with some others), so I don't think so. I highly doubt it is a romantic thing. x4mr did not mention gender, which is probably deliberate (usually people slip and say "he" or "she" when talking about a specific person).

That it occurred immediately after his dinner with Sirocco is a hell of a coincidence. Well, whoever it is, this is a good thing.

I vote for x4mr's daughter at Stanford. She must be graduating soon, and maybe she finally connected with his writing.

I remember him saying that he wanted her to read his blog.

Anon (6:24), Brilliant! It's his daughter. She finally read what her father has written and "gets it."

I'm a little disappointed I didn't see this. I also remember x4mr expressing something about wanting his daughter to read his material.

Dad and daughter now have much to discuss.

Yes, the daughter seems a likely candidate but why would a cute young girl be reading a blog on Friday and Saturday? (I know it's possible.)

I thought too about what Observer said, it could be someone from the past who X4mr had been targetting all along.

But I still think it's a lady. So, to honor this occasion, here is Neil Diamond's "Kentucky Woman:"

Kentucky woman
She shines with her own kind of light
She'd look at you once
And a day that's all wrong
looks all right
And I love her
God knows, I love her

Kentucky woman
If she get to know you
She goin' to own you
Kentucky woman

Well, she ain't the kind
Makes heads turn at the drop of her name
But something inside
That she's got turn you on just the same
And she loves me
God knows, she loves me

Kentucky woman
If she get to know you
She goin' to own you
Kentucky woman

I don't want much
The good Lord's earth beneath my feet
A gentle touch
From that one girl, and life is
Sweet and good
Ain't no doubt
I'm talkin' about

Kentucky woman
If she get to know you
She goin' to own you
Kentucky woman

Nice try, anon, but sorry, Nav. Say your x4mr's daughter on a weekend. Let's see. Do you go to SF to party with your studly boyfriend and other pals, or do you spend Friday night and Saturday reading about AZ economic development and politics?

Nav is right that x4mr wants his daughter to read him, but when she took a look at his blog she said, "It looked long and I was tired."

I think Liza is right that it's a lady, but not in KY and not romantic. x4mr blogged for 3 years before moving to KY.

If I understand the analytics correctly, x4mr is really only guessing, although it is an intelligent guess. Only "certain person" knows for absolute sure. I think Liza's initial hunch was right. Obviously I don't know, but my money says "Certain Person" is a certain Congresswoman.

She probably does peruse the political blogs, but there is a world of difference between a superficial surf and a true, deep analysis.

Speaking of romance (this is going to drive x4mr nuts), I did hear about a, shall we say "fling" with a certain math professor, very cute, very young, and easy to spot on his Facebook page. The reason this will bother him is that I'm not on Facebook.

I almost said "math lady" instead of just "lady."

Yeah, Cigar Man, that is a little curious how you would know about the math lady without being on Facebook.

She probably isn't even from Kentucky, but I do like that Neil Diamond song.

Dang, Cigar, is nothing off limits?

It doesn't feel right to say who it is, but I can promise you the individual is NOT my daughter, nor is it my friend in the math department.

By the way, Liza, my new friend actually is PURE Kentucky woman. Born, bred, and schooled through her PhD in KY. Our houses are about a mile apart. We're friends, sort of.

X4mr, whenever you put anything on Facebook you have to ask yourself, "Would I be okay with this being on the front page of the New York Times?"

With the daughter and the math lady excluded, the "certain person" must be Ms. Giffords.

Liza, I am pretty sure x4mr realizes that everything he posts here as well as Facebook is totally public.

Now I think it's Judy, that very old spiritual mentor with multiple PhD's who danced with dervishes. x4mr called her one of the "real masters." She is at the very end of "Something Else." She moved from Tucson to the northwest (maybe Seattle?) right as x4mr was resigning from SAIAT. She was the most (or close) advanced of the "certain folks with a certain perception."

It is a huge coincidence that this happened the weekend immediately after x4mr went to Seattle. For an instant I thought "certain person" might be Sirocco, but that can't be since he's already read everything and is himself part of the content.

Maybe it's that belly dancer, Rania.

Or Rachel Maddow.

I agree with Navigator. The woman who moved to the northwest is probably the most likely given the timing.

Well, isn't this rich?

Cigar Man is not on Facebook, but he is a friend of someone who is not Liza, but like Liza, is a friend of x4mr on Facebook, so both know about math lady, who is a friend of x4mr.

Judy is not on Facebook. Sirocco is on Facebook, but not as a friend of x4mr or Liza,

Judy is Sirocco's grandmother and many years ago taught math lady algebra while she was still in high school.

I suspect it is a lady and I have an idea who it might be, given the language that X4mr uses in the post.

*whistles innocently to herself*

(Not me, btw. . . =P )

I am now in a position to solve the whole puzzle. While it's no secret, many don't know that astronaut Mark Kelly, Giffords husband, had a former wife. "Certain person" is in fact Kelly's first wife and the mother of his children. Now who is this?

Rania the belly dancer!

Why aren't Rania and Mark still together? Texpatriote knows, because she is Rania's agent. While belly dancing at a software conference, Rania met Sirocco and was smitten at once. Sirocco resisted her at first, but he was no match for her charms. I wish I could have been there when x4mr met Sirocco and saw that Rania the belly dancer was Sirocco's wife. A few days after the dinner she read his blog, so he's thrilled.

I remember Sirocco saying his wife is a Republican so that kind of rules out her being a belly dancer.

X4mr, I sent a friend request to the math lady. She already has 315friends, which is something I find amazing unless you are a celebrity of some kind.
