Giffords Launches 2008 Campaign

Tucson, Arizona. A whole bunch of Democrats converged at the Hotel Congress last night to mark the beginning of the 2008 campaign for Arizona's Eighth Congressional District. The place became so full they had to keep people out of the Copper Room to comply with fire hazard regulations. So everyone would get a chance to hear her speak, the Congresswoman addressed those who couldn't get in the first time about an hour later in the Tap Room.

Your humble blogger was in said Tap Room purchasing a Guinness at the time the Copper Room got too full, so I had another Guinness (oh, twist my arm) and waited for Round Two, which featured a much smaller group. Giffords took questions, and one woman asked why we weren't impeaching Lord Cheney and Eggplant. Giffords replied that Reid, Pelosi and the Democratic leadership had made the decision not to pursue this since the two cannot run for re-election anyway. The group didn't like the answer, but everyone understood that the freshman is not in a position to move the leadership to impeach the president.

I asked the following:

Speaking of this horrible administration, are we going to be able to hold these guys to account? These men are criminals. They took an oath to uphold the constitution and they are throwing it in our face. Can Bush just pardon himself and everyone and they all waltz into the sunset with the money they made?

Giffords acknowledged that she was as frustrated and disgusted with the administration as we were. (The room shared your humble blogger's opinion of Eggplant and his corporate goons.) I have already forgotten the name of the Congressman she referred to that is looking into what can and should occur if after the 2008 election evidence exists to prosecute those who committed crimes with and under Eggplant.

I wanted to speak with her husband, but he left pretty early. Perhaps NASA mechanics got confused and needed to ask him something about the space shuttle.

Apparently who will play the roles of Rodd and Daniel this time around has not yet been determined. Jennifer is serious cute (Ooh! Aah!). The campaign office by law must be a separate location from the working office. They've secured a spot at 4444 E. Grant.

Tim Bee, last I looked, remains parked at the end of the runway. Any day now. The Sierra Vista Herald published a piece on Bee today. What do I know, but in my opinion delaying past this week is a mistake. I remember the Club Congress event two years ago. What a difference.

At least 500 attended the event last night. That's a lot of checks. I wonder if Bee really knows what he is up against. Last night she looked the strongest I've seen her. He needs to get in the air soon or he never will.

Sorry I couldn't make it last night.

If Bee doesn't know what he is in for, then he should really re-think running. Incumbency is one thing, but to puff a bit more, her campaign and support base is seriously strong.

I really really ....really...don't think he can win this...and there is little benefit to him running and losing...and much much cost.

Two, I hope, fair questions about Tim's bio. Impressive as it is.

First, all I read says he went to U. of A. and claims "diploma". Did he graduate?

Second, how did he afford the million dollar view as a former printer and a full-time legislator that makes all of $30K?

All of us in Tucson have "million dollar views" of our majestic mountains.

Tim lives very modestly. Gabby is the privilaged of the two.

It will be a substantial challenge, but Bee can win.

I would've attended if someone had invited me;(

TR,

I suspect he must live modestly if he indeed survives on a legislator's salary.

What about my other question? Degree? Education?

"Speaking of this horrible administration, are we going to be able to hold these guys to account?"

The answer is no. The Democrats, weak, fragmented, incompetent, and lacking leadership, threw away that opportunity.

One person in the House is 1/435 of that entity, yet it counts. It adds up.

We need better qualified in Congress, but I'll be hanged if I know how a qualified person could get elected given the systemic problems there are in the process.

Make that "better qualified people."

The key there is "weak". If the Democrats had more power, and if that power came with close scrutiny of their votes, then they could really get things accomplished.

Things seem to be moving in the right direction with the cash flowing to the Democrats and the older incumbent Republicans retiring. We just need more people, dollars, and energy on the side of change.

All these smart people here and not one will answer my question about the simplest damn thing on a person's resume.

Does Tim Bee have a degree from the U. of A. or not?

Again, I look at his website, it says "diploma", Project Vote Smart...very little more...

Call me elitist, but I care that the person representing me is both honest about their background (diploma = degree) and the level of education of my public leaders.

Roger,
I would answer your question if I could. What I can offer at this time is that once he announces as a candidate for Congress, which should be any day, you will soon get your answer.

He cannot run for Congress listing "diploma," which occurs as rather bizarre.

If in a month as a candidate he is still running such content, blogs will pounce. I doubt Bee is lying. If he said he got a diploma, he got one. Your guess is as good as mine why he doesn't specify the field.

Hey Matt:

Thanks for answering. Here is a bit more I found from a different website.

Note the MAJOR difference in this one under education. This one says "Attended University of Arizona." His Senate webpage says "diploma, u of a" and ProjectVoteSmart lists it that way as well.

Why am I making this an issue?

1. I want to know the educational background of who I vote for and compare them. Not the only factor, but a big one for me.

2. The "George O'Leary" factor. He appears to be suggesting on his state page that he graduated and has a degree (diploma). Its vague though...and blatantly misleading either way. Another page says "attended" meaning he took classes and didn't graduate.

#1 is an issue for me.

#2 Sounds a lot like lying about your background.

Here is the webpage:
